Jack Raven looked out on his porch over the small valley of Cranville. He scowled at the now mostly undead population of the town, how unwilling to listen they all were, now look at them. Jack stepped off the porch and gazed at his estate. He praised himself for investing in stocks right before the internet boomed, otherwise he wouldn't have been able to buy this plot of land and the beautiful 10 foot brick wall around it, not to mention all the fancy stuff inside it.

Then all of a sudden a thought came to him, what if there are still people to be saved...no he must help himself before anyone else, someone must survive. But what exactly am I defending against, thought Jack, zombies? rage infected freaks? I've seen many films before about such things, but I'm sure not even the greatest minds could imagine anything like this happening. But then again it doesn't take a great mind to come to terms with this..."Thing I dub thee 'zombie'..." said Jack.

He hacked up a spit, shot it over the porch and went back inside...

Jenn Baker was among few people living in the middle of Cranville. She heard about the internet and the zombies but didn't really believe the zombie thing until she left home one day. She was on her way over to a friends house, she walked over there because it was only around the corner. She made it safley to her friends house, but on the way back was a different story. It was very dark out because the street lights were out. It kinda looked a little like something out of a scary movie. She saw someone standing by a trash can that was on fire but the persons back was to her so she couldn't see their face. They had looked like someone she knew so she called out to them...."HEY" she called very loudly. They turned around and it was so dark she didn't see their face until they walked very slowly over to her. This person looked like a man. When the man was about 2 feet away she saw his face and it was all distorted and gross looking then she saw the blood all over his face and shirt. It in fact was a zombie.....she screamed in terror and then without thinking she started running in the other direction, as she was running she ran through a hole in a fence and when she ran through it she had cut herself on it. She stopped and looked around for anymore zombies and had seen the cut on her leg, it was a very deep cut that was bleeding to much so she ripped of some fabric from her shirt and tied it around her leg to help stop the bleeding. She then thought to herself......"I wonder if there is anyone else out there".

Selene Harker was on her first vacation from the Library in two years. She loved her job but needed a break. Instead of going to some far off beach , she decided she would stay at her house and forget about the outside world for a week. She turned off her computer and unplugged her phones. “Nice and peaceful” she thought. Little did she know the rest of the town was going to hell in a hand basket. Selene lived in a secluded section outside of town where it was just her and the forest. It wasn’t until halfway into her vacation things started going wrong. She had fallen asleep in her backyard with a book. It wasn’t until later that she woke with a start. Her mind was still foggy with sleep when she heard a strange sound in the woods behind her. Freezing and listening closely for a few seconds, she didn’t hear anything. Getting up to go inside she heard it again. thump…thump…thump. “Weird” she mumbled to herself as she started walking up the steps to her back porch. She got to the top and froze. Something was shuffling its way out of the weeds. Squinting her eyes and crouching down slowly to get a better look she wonder what it could be. It looked human but it was so dark and there wasn’t anything around for miles for someone to be coming into her back yard . “ Maybe a lost hiker?” she wondered. “ Hey! Are you ok?” she called out. Whatever it was registered her voice and looked up. As it got closer into her porch light she finally got a look at this person and gasped. It was male covered in blood and huge gashes, his eyes milky white and his skin was so white with a tint on greenish blue. “What happened to you!” she said and started walking down the stairs to help him. She got five feet away from him when he groaned at her and lunged at her. She side stepped his drunken stumble and wondered what the hell was happening. “ What the fuck are you doing?!” He turned to her again and tried once more, his legs were so mangled It made the attempt much harder but still frightened her. “ Get the hell out of my yard!” she yelled as she started walking backwards away from him. She didn’t see a look of comprehension in his blank, bloody face. He just shambled after her. She hoped he wouldn’t follow to fast but she made a break for it and ran to the front of her house and into the front door. Sprinting to the back door to lock it and any and all windows and doors locked also. Fumbling for her phone she realized it was unplugged, with tingling fingers she tried to get it plugged back in and mashed 911. Waiting for the neutral operators voice to come on and ask what was wrong. It never came, all she got was a recorded voice telling her to turn the television on. Her mind was trying vainly to connect the dots. What did the television have to do with an emergency. She plugged the cord into the wall and turned on the news. Her jaw dropped. Was this a joke? “ My boss was right” she chuckled to herself to try to stay calm “I leave work for once and the apocalypse starts. “ The perfect anchorwoman stated with a uninterested voice, but worried eyes, that “infected persons” were popping up all over town and spreading and then started stating how to protect yourself. “Right..well time to get to work.” Selene said to herself. Straightening her spine and walking to the basement with purpose she got everything she needed and went back outside. Calmly and deliberately she leveled her pump action shotgun at her “infected intruders” head, just like the anchor woman told her to do. And pulled the trigger.

Jack closed the door behind him after his enlightenment out on the porch. He walked over to the kitchen and had yet another cup of coffee. He sat down at the table and found himself fighting with himself on whether or not to look for survivors.

"Damn it Jack your an American not the grim reaper." He said downwardly to himself. He slammed down the empty cup and walked into his bedroom. Walking past the bed he walked into the closet and opened the walk in safe. He flicked on the light switch and smiled at his collection. "Just in case those things don't listen to me." He said in a sarcastic tone.

He grabbed a gun belt and loaded both gun slots with 9mm and grabbed a few clips full of ammo. He then walked over to the loaded gun rack and pondered on which one to take. He settled on the 12 gauge. He grabbed another gun-belt and loaded it with shells, and then loaded the shotgun itself for optimum ammo.

He walked back out of the safe and locked it back up. He left the bedroom and was making his way to the front door when Thadeus, Jack's German Shepard barked with a confused look on his face. Jack looked at him and said, "What I fed you?" the dog murmured again in a whiny tone and Jack impatiently said "Fine come with me but you better listen to my orders, damn it. Thadeus, Follow." Thadeus stood up and walked around behind Jack as to follow. before turning to go something caught Jack's eye. His sword collection. He walked into his living room and gandered at his swords. "Should i take one, just in case Thad?" He said. his eyes looked up and down at the pair of daisho and his Marine ceremonial sword and a few others before stopping at the machete he acquired in the Philippines. It wasnt nearly as well up kept as the other swords, because it was all business back in the day...

    "Decision made"
He said affirmatively and grabbed the machete and fastened it to his belt. He walked out the front door to the large garage, followed by Thadeus. "What should we take Thadeus. Nothing fancy okay, It isn't the best day for cruising down on main street." Jack said more to himself than the dog. "Let's go practical and expect a couple survivors, Suv it is." He said.

He grabbed the keys off the hook inside the garage and opened the Suv. Kicked Thadeus' butt to convey the message "Get in" to the dog. after Thadeus was in Jack hopped in, started the car and made for the front gate. Pushed the button, which signaled for the gate to open automatically. Drove through and then signaled to close it. He looked around making sure no zombies were around, especially on the wall or around the gate. He cracked a rare smile of satisfaction that there were none. He turned the car toward the road and headed down the hill into town to play hero, once again....

Hmmm...I wonder where I am" Jenn thought to herself. She started walking down a path next to her looking for a sign telling her of where she was. "I want to know where I am, but I don't wanna walk back through the hole in the fence....that's where the zombie is" Jenn said to herself quietly. She then looked around and saw a sign about 30 feet in front of her, so she ran to it..."Cranville Park" Jenn said curiously to herself, "I wonder where I can get away from the zombies lurking around" she then said to herself. So she started walking down the path again and right in the middle of Cranville Park was a very tall tree with a dimmed lamp post next to it. she ran over to the tree and and started trying to climb it, but her wound on her leg prevented her from climbing it. Jenn then saw a bench next to the lamp post and climbed on the bench then the lamp post and eventually ending up on a branch in the tree. She looked down and saw that she wasnt high enough from the ground so she continued climbing the tree until she was pretty much hidden and very high from the ground. She started panicing and thought to herself "what if i'm the only survior, what will happen to me if i'm stuck her forever, what if no one finds me", she started to cry a little bit after her last thought.

Blake Burns sat in an abandoned building that overlooked the Cranville town center on the north side and the park on the east. He was tediously cleaning and polishing each individual piece of his FN SCAR-H Sniper almost lovingly. Blake was ex-military turned hired gun. After spending years with his finger on the trigger of various firearms, watching the blood spew from his targets, he didn't seem to fit in as a normal person in society. So here he was, hired as an assassin by a big time corporation looking to eliminate a problematic individual. One of the few jobs he had received after his military career ended with insubordination, and he started selling himself as a mercenary on the black market.

He slowly pieced together his rifle and mounted it on a table next to him, overlooking a podium in the town center. There was a radio quietly playing classical music on the table, it was one of the only stations still playing, the rest were eerily silent. There was one other station playing a public announcement on a loop, something about suspicious persons. After it had mentioned zombies, Blake had ceased listening to it figuring it was a hoax and a waste of his time. He was peering through the scope of the rifle at the podium when he heard a faint scream in the direction of the park. Curious, he stands and removes a pair of binoculars from the table, and heads over to the eastern side of the building. After scanning the park for a moment Blake makes out a figure heading towards the center of the park to a tree. Blake casually pulls up a chair to watch this strange spectacle, interested in what might of caused the individual to scream.

Jenn was still sitting in the same tree when she heard some bushes rustling about 15 feet from her. It was kinda breezy out so she didn't think anything of it until she looked down and saw two zombies walking around the tree. She couldn't really see well because it was so dark, but she saw one that looked like her friend that she was with earlier in the day. They looked like they didn't know what they were doing, then she just kept looking down when she saw some headlights from a car driving down the mountain..."I wonder if it's a survior" she thought to herself. She then felt the urge to sneeze because she had allergies to pollen. She didn't want to sneeze though otherwise she might alert the zombies to her presense in the tree. More zombies started showing up, by this time there were 5 zombies just wandering around. Jenn then heard a guy talking and saw a car driving really slow. Jenn then sneezed and the zombies looked around then up and saw Jenn and started surrounding the tree. Jenn started screaming because it was so scary. She then thought "what should I do, calm down and think for a second"...."HELP, I'M SUROUNDED BY ZOMBIES" Jenn yelled at the top of her lungs...

Jack Raven Drove down the long road down and around the mountain back to the little town wondering if this whole expedition was even worth it. No he had to...A marine never left an American behind. He came to a 4 way stop and pulled up to the stop sign. "Am I crazy for abiding to the rules or am I crazy for thinking I shouldn't?" said jack. He laughed and sped off toward downtown.

Once he got to main street he started looking for survivors on the left and right sides. To the right were abandoned business's which didn't look inhabited at all...by the living at least. To the left was Cranville Park. He was about to speed off to look somewhere else when he heard a noise...

Immediately he recognized it as a woman's scream in the park. He came to a stop with the headlights pointed towards the sound. He saw her in the tree surrounded by zombies. "Time to shine, Jack" he said to myself. He grabbed the 12 gauge and bolted out the Suv. Jack sprinted up to the first zombie and the base of the tree and caved his head in with the butt of the shotgun, then brought it around and shot the second from the hip, quickly dispatching the 3rd and 4th in the same manner. For fun he push kicked the fifth and shot it too. He called up to the woman that the coast was clear and helped her down. He wiped off the juices from the butt of his shotgun on the grass and They both ran for the Suv and Jack blasted away another on the way. Safely in the vehicle they sped off....

Kitty Page sat in her home and sighed. She had heard about the zombies but had yet to see one and she had to think of a plan. If she did see one she would be in trouble. She had seen many movies about zombies, and even played games, but actually facing them was a different matter all together. She knew the best way to kill one was with a shotgun and she didn't have that. She didn't even have a chainsaw. However, she did have a baseball bat, but how effective would that be? She didn't know, but it was all she had. She grabbed her baseball bat and peaked out the window. No zombies in sight. I wonder if I have enough gas to make it into town. Would there be any point? There's bound to be survivors. There are so many now because we were all surprised but now we know and there are bound to be people fighting... But will I find them? Should I stay or should I go? She laughed a little, but she knew she had to go. There was no food left, or water. She had to find supplies. She clutched her baseball bat and ran for her car, it was a small sedan but it would get her where she needed to go. When she cranked it up, she frowned at the gas meter. She had enough to get to town, but she would never make it back. God I hope I find someone. She drove towards town.

Blake watched as the figure climbed into the tree. Moments later two more figures showed up, stumbling by. Drunks? No something isn't right... They must of heard the person in the tree because soon there were five surrounding it, looking up into the branches. Then he heard a faint yell. "HELP, I'M SURROUNDED BY ZOMBIES!" At that moment an SUV that was driving down Main Street swerved and sped into the park. It stopped with its headlights shining at the tree. Now that there was a light shining on them, he could clearly make out the figures. The five around the tree were the blood stained mutilated figures of the undead. A man hopped out of the SUV and started to beat them down and blow them away with a shotgun, then proceeded to help a woman out of the tree before they sped off.

It took Blake a moment to register what just happened before returning to his chair on the northern end of the building were his rifle sat mounted on a table. The radio was still playing classical music, he switched the station to the public announcements...
We are currently in a state of emergency. The dead have come back to life and are attacking the living. We advise everyone to seek shelter until help arrives. The epidemic appears to be widespread....
"Humph, help? That's a laugh." Blake mumbles to himself as he proceeds to remove the mount and sniper barrel from his rifle, a sniper wasn't going to be very effective on the move. "All the government is good for is helping themselves, the military won't be heading to a small town like this anytime soon." He placed the mount and sniper barrel in their specific slots inside a suitcase and strapped the rifle over his back. I'm going to need to find more ammo and some shelter. There was a firearms shop a couple blocks past the grocery store on the west side of town. He could get any supplies he needs down there. Shelter was problem, he wasn't a local around here. He removes a silenced MK 23 from inside his jacket. Best not to draw too much attention to myself or things could get messy. Zombies were probably swarming the park from all the noise, good thing I'm heading in the opposite direction. Blake makes his way down the abandoned building, cautiously making his way down through an alley heading west. "Well this is definitely interesting, this is going to be one hell of a midnight stroll." He was out on the streets with a long walk ahead of him before he will reach the firearms shop.

Kitty drove down the streets and thought to herself. Taking the main road is probably a bad idea, but who would be on the back roads? She shook her head and turned heading west. Doesn't matter I still have enough gas. Of course then the car started to sputter. Or not. She looked at her gas meter, the light had turned on and the arrow was on empty. Damn it. As she sputtered to a shop she looked around. That was stupid, taking the back roads. She grumbled but was thankful there wasn't any zombies around. She picked her baseball bat and set in the car. She cut her headlights off so not to draw any attention to herself and then thought about where she would go next.

Sometime passed before she heard a thump. She looked up and saw a zombie. She clutched her mouth to hold in a scream. Did he know she was there? She didn't know but she did know he was probably going to call more attention to her until one of them did realize she was there. She looked around making sure there wasn't anymore then climbed out of her car, clutched her bat and hit the zombie in the head. She watched it roll down the street and she frowned. That used to be a person. Well I guess it's time to move. She headed down the street sticking to the shadows.

Hiro followed James but then noticed a ladder leading up to an adjacent roof. In truth my aim is still rusty I'd do well to get some practice from a good distance. "James sorry but I'm heading to the adjacent roof I'll watch you guys from up there" without waiting for a response he climbed the ladder.

Taking out the handgun from his holster he felt the weight, something new but similar. Hiro took a magazine out of his three and cocked the gun and looking noticed five zombies heading to James's group. He took aim and shot a few bullets hitting the grey devils but not one was able to bring them down. He still had 8 bullets so he once more aimed this time however the weight was familiar he remembered the adjustments and shot the remaining bullets killing all of them only missing twice. At least now I can stand a better chance, if I can aim this far and hit I should be fine hitting the closer ones with a bit more accuracy...but I will need to get use to the difference of an enemy being right in my face compared to longer distance.

Selene watched in slow motion as the pellets carved holes into the face of the thing that used to have a soul. She was always at the gun range, but this was the first time she took a life, if you could call it that. It lessened her guilt knowing it wasn’t really alive anymore. Just keeping it dead she thought to herself.

Waiting a minute to make sure it wasn’t going to get up once more. She walked over to the corpse, nudged it with her shoe and inspected it. A foot away, something caught her eye. A thin sliver chain with a tiny Finnish flag, its colors now muted with the blood of one of its own. For a reason unknown to her she noticed herself reaching down with a gloved hand and grabbing the small charm as it slipped of the broken chain. “Olla rauhassa” Be at peace, she whispered to the man, and possibly to herself. The sentimental moment over she laughed at how silly she was and straightened up. Back into survival mode she realized she left her self wide open for attack should another hear the blast and come wandering over.

Back in her house she washed the blood off the little flag and slipped it into her pocket. Finding a duffel bag she stuffed as many guns, ammo, food and water she could into it just in case she had to leave in a hurry. Then she grabbed her phone and dialed her loved ones numbers. Her heart sank as ring after ring no one picked up. She was about to give up when she finally heard the now, unfamiliar, click on someone answering their cell. “Oh Jenn! Thank God you’re ok, you are ok, right? Where are you!” she blurted before Jenn even got to say hello.

As the Suv picked up speed and evened out Jack mentally checks
himself for any pain or abnormalities, feeling quite sure he was fine
handed over his 12 gauge to the woman. "Can you reload this, ammo is in
    the back." Jack said.
He unclipped the m9 from his belt and handed it to her to and said, "You can use this I guess, you need something to defend yourself with." Feeling overly demanding he said "So whats your name ma'am? I'm Jack Raven."

"I'm Jenn Baker" Jenn said as she answered the phone. "I'm fine, I was in the park stuck in a tree surrounded by zombies, but Jack Raven kicked zombie ass and helped me out of the tree, anyway we'll come pick you up right now, see you in a few" Jenn then hung up the phone gently. "Can we go and pick up Selene from her house, she lives just at the end of that dirt road there" she said as she pointed to the road from the front passenger seat of Jack's SUV. Jenn then rememebered Jack had asked her to reload the shotgun, so she reached in the backseat for the ammo, then reloaded the shotgun and waited for a reply from Jack about going to pick Selene up at her house.

Hiro continued on foot for quite sometime, he noticed a car. As he approached he felt the hood, it had been used recently maybe he could use it. Opening the door he looked at the gas meter, alas it read empty So much for that idea he laughed to himself, fate decided that it did not want him to use a car at the moment. He looked down the alley If someone had been here recently could it be a wise choice to follow the dark alley, I hear moans but being on the open streets has already proved to be work with them shuffling about. He took his katana and placed it on his shoulder God has told me to go this way might as well continue he took the dark alley.

Blake came to the end of an alley that lead to Spruce Ave. He had dispatched four zombies on the way before he decided that the alley might not of been a good idea, if he had been swarmed he would of had no where to go. He peeks around the corner to see if any zombies where on the street and sure enough, a few of those bastards were stumbling around. He notices the grocery store across the street, that means the firearms shop is still a couple blocks down. "Heh, never a dull moment." After checking his ammo, he slowly walks into the street.

It took a while for any of the zombies to notice him, and when he aimed the laser sight and shot them in the head with his silenced MK 23 not many seemed to take notice. Killing them wasn't a problem, ammo was. He was loading his third and last clip in his pistol after making it two blocks down the street. His rifle was the last thing he wanted to have to resort to, he didn't need every zombie in town coming at him. He had gone through another half a clip when he finally reached the firearms shop and cautiously stepped inside.

The lights were out and it was dark. He sets down the suitcase and pulls a small flashlight from his jacket pocket to hold out infront of him with his pistol, his wrists overlapping each other as he moved around searching for a light. The store was empty, not a zombie inside. He had found a light switched and clicked it on, admiring the his surroundings. Rifles, pistols, and shotguns all around and plenty of ammunition to go with it. He had gone through tow and a half clips of ammo, 30 rounds. That's four dead zombies in the alleys and two dozen in the street. He lights up a smoke as he wanders around the shop to see what he has to work with.

Kitty walked swiftly through the shadows and thought about her options. She could look for survivors, that was risky in itself, she could get supplies but she had no way to carry them, or she could go to the gun shop and get a gun. She looked at her bloodied bat and then her surroundings. That's a long way off yet. She heard moans from behind her, she turned and 3 zombies were closing in. But I have to make it. She took off at a run, if she was to survive she needed a gun, a damn good one at that.

When she reached the streets she was surprised at the bodies that were lying around. Has someone been through here? She looked up, she could see the ammo shop... and the lights were on! Wait.. Kitty don't get your hopes up. They could've just been left on, but then they would've busted.. right? She smiled in triumph and ran to the Gun shop.

She walked in the door and looked at the survivor. Tears of joy falling from her cheeks, "You have no idea how happy I am to see a living person!" She didn't think about the fact that she could've startled him, or that he had weapons. She was only happy and ready to get a new weapon.

Hiro couldn't continue down the alley multiple zombies had decided to feast on the remnants of a human torso. Damn this way seemed good, but now where do I go before they notice me He didn't feel like doubling back, but luckily he noticed another path, an escape roof ladder loomed over him, he jumped and began to climb it, the few zombies looked at him but realized they were too late for a decent fresh meal. Hiro looked back and smiled "Sorry fiends, I would prefer to stay among the living for a little while longer." the one zombie moaned and swiped at the air as if attempting to show emotion, Hiro found it rather distrurbing and continued to climb the ladder.

Hiro looked at the top of the roof, the cold night air seemed even more deathly from this height. There seems to be movement at the gun shop over there, I wonder if there are some people hiding there...or more of them. Hiro quickly took a small flask out of his back pocket. His pants were ripped slightly he noticed. Taking a swig of the drink he looked at the gun shop once more. He took out a flashlight and began to turn it on and off hoping someone notice.

Blake was busy admiring a shotgun he was holding and loading when the woman came in. "Grab that suitcase by your feet would ya, and place it on the counter." He speaks without even glancing in her direction with the cigarette still in his mouth. After he was done reloading it, he places it down and starts looking for a silenced muzzle for his rifle. "While you're at it grab some .45 ACP rounds from behind the counter." After finding one that would fit he removes the rifle from his back and attaches it on. "You from around here?" Blake asks as he finishes attaching the silencer and continues to wander around the shop.

Kitty was stunned for a second then picked up the suitcase as she was asked, "Yeah, my house is a good distance from here, I drove but ran out of gas." She hefted the suitcase up and placed it on the counter then went searching for the bullets, mumbling the name off as she looked. "I'm Kitty by the way." She thought for a second, grabbing the bullets and placing them on the counter then began looking for her on weapon. "Are you from around here Mister uh...." She glanced at him hoping he would fill in the blanks.

"Blake... no I'm not." He came to a stop infront of a rather impressive array of scopes. "Have you ever fired a gun before?" One scope in particular caught his eye, a night vision rifle scope with multiple zoom settings. He removes the sniper scope from his rifle and attaches it on, testing out the sights. "How come a small time shop like this has such nice toys?" The lights flicker for a second, he then starts casually walking around the store just like it was a normal day shopping for him. He had a mental list in his head, checking things off as he grabbed them and placed them on the counter. Lets see... we need ammo belt for me, hunting vest for her, shotgun for both of us, shotgun shells, rifle rounds, pistols and ammo, holsters, bags... He continued to grab items as he waited for a response.

"Yes I have," She noticed he was grabbing extra weapons and ammo and decided not to look around. She walked over to him and started to help. She laid her bat down but decided she would bring it. She looked at him, "You don't seem scared at all." She studied him for a second, "Are you a mercenary? Or maybe a ninja?" She laughed a little, but then her face went serious again, "I lost a lot of friends because of this outbreak. It's dreadful." She picked up one particular shotgun and smiled at it then placed it beside her bat.

Hanging up her phone, Selene felt a little relieved. At least there were some survivors, as she knew, so many had not been so fortunate. Pushing that thought away, she turned to the task at hand. She knew she might not come back to her house again. She set about gathering everything she needed and put everything that was important to her in the safe in the basement., hoping to return to it later. She didn’t know what to expect, Jenn seemed fine and not worried at the moment, so whoever was with her was, so far, reliable. She set her bag near the front door and waited. Now that she had a moment to stop and think, her mind started spinning. What will happen now? I know the government won’t do everything they say. How widespread is this disease? And what could have started all this? Knowing that trying to find an answer would just lead to more questions, she decided to keep a closer watch and make sure no more zombies were stumbling around. After a few minute of silence she heard an engine coming up her lonely dirt road..
